Housing navigation service

Housing support to help people find accommodation

Grant £15,000

The housing navigation service run by 999 Club in Deptford helps people to look for, find and move into accommodation. Working with clients one-to-one and through weekly housing clinics, they help them to address challenges they may have that are preventing them from securing accommodation, they accompany people to viewings where needed, and can help to find emergency accommodation whilst working on longer-term solutions.

They also help people to put plans in place to sustain their accommodation once they have found a place to live, by referring them to a peer support programme that helps people to settle into their communities.

People using the service often don’t have the means to pay for housing deposits themselves, which sometimes means they are unable to accept properties they are offered. The project helps to underwrite a housing deposit scheme, whereby the local credit union will provide loans to people for their deposits, with the project providing a financial guarantee against non-repayment of loans. This scheme helps to speed up the process of someone securing accommodation, and increases the range of properties available to them.
