Jobs, Education & Training for homeless young people
Employment and education opportunities
Grant £15,000
It can be challenging for young people to access employment opportunities at the best of times. It is especially the case for a young person who doesn’t have a stable place to call home. Access to education and employment opportunities is one of the single best ways to prevent a young person from returning to homelessness.
The Jobs, Education and Training youth work team at New Horizon Youth Centre, near Kings Cross, provides young people attending their day centre with access to education and employment opportunities, alongside tailored and holistic practical support. The programme includes weekly drop-in workshops covering topics such as job-searching, CVs, interview skills, and educational guidance on applying to college or further education.
Other support includes one-to-one career coaching, to help young people identify their unique strengths and long-term ambitions, and on-going personal development support. Young people are also given access to unique job placements, apprenticeships, and vocational training programmes, such as barista training.
Personalised, long-term support ensures that young people don’t miss out on opportunities for their future because of circumstances outside of their control.
